Review: Stung (Stung #1) by Bethany Wiggins

Title: Stung (Stung #1)
Author: Bethany Wiggins
Publisher: Walker Childrens
Published: April 2, 2013
Format: E-book; 303pgs
Source: Netgalley
ISBN: 0802734181
Purchase:
Amazon
Barnes and Noble
The Book Depository

Synopsis:

Fiona doesn't remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered-her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right wrist-a black oval with five marks on either side-that she doesn't remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. And she's right. When the honeybee population collapsed, a worldwide pandemic occurred and the government tried to bio-engineer a cure. Only the solution was deadlier than the original problem-the vaccination turned people into ferocious, deadly beasts who were branded as a warning to un-vaccinated survivors. Key people needed to rebuild society are protected from disease and beasts inside a fortress-like wall. But Fiona has awakened branded, alone-and on the wrong side of the wall . . .

REVIEW:

This book was such a wild ride from start to finish and I enjoyed every page. Well, I might have winced a couple of times too. And I might have got a book crush on Dreyden Bowen. lol Anyone else out there in the same boat?

Anyways, I tore through this book. It kept my attention quite easily and was so intriguing. The story of Fiona was really cool to watch unfold. Fiona (Fo) wakes up in an unknown world where even her closest family has become monsters. Terrified, Fo flees and ends up in an underworld that is unlike anything she has never known. Fo has to decide who to trust and learn how to survive. Not an easy task for someone that still thinks they are 13, since those were the last memories she has. Now she is 17 and on the run from something she doesn't understand.

Stung kept me guessing all the way to the magnificent ending. This book was perfect. Great mixture of action, suspense, and a little romance. I highly recommend it.

5 stars to Stung by Bethany Wiggins.

Think Out Loud #45: Every Stupid Thing

Hello all.
I hope you are having better luck than me.
So far, May has sucked ass.
Partly because I got another year older
and have still accomplished nothing.

This is exactly how I feel.
I don't know if I've got a moon out of alignment or something,
but I am one distracted, mess up cookie.

I shouldn't drink vodka again either.
Like never.
Never Ever.
Evidently, I say mean things that I don't remember.
That's not good.

Ok. there is my depressing Think Out Loud.

Title: Storm (Swipe #3)
Author: Evan Angler
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Published: May 7, 2013
ISBN: 1400321972
Format: Ebook
Source: Netgalley

Synopsis:

In a future United States under the power of a charismatic leader, everyone gets the Mark at age thirteen. The Mark allows citizen to shop, go to school, and even get medical care--without it, you are on your own. Few refuse to get the Mark. Those who do . . . disappear.

Logan Langly went in to get his Mark, but he backed out at the last minute. Ever since, he's been on the run from government agents and on a quest to find his sister Lily, who disappeared when she went to get her Mark five years earlier. His journey leads him to befriend the Dust, a vast network of Markless individuals who dissent against the iron-grip rule of the government. Along the way to the capital to find Lily, the Dust receive some startling information from the Markless community, opening their eyes to the message of Christianity and warning that humanity is now entering the End of Days.

In "Storm," Logan and his friends are the leaders of the Markless revolution. But while some Markless are fighting Chancellor Cylis' army, the Dust is busy trying to find a cure for a horrible epidemic sweeping through the Marked. And it's difficult for them to know who to trust, especially when they aren't sure if Logan's sister Lily, one of the commanders in Cylis' army, is on their side or not. And all across the nation--and the world--the weather is become less stable, and a storm is brewing that bigger than any of them could have ever imagined....

REVIEW

I finished the book forever ago and have been procrastinating on writing the review bigtime. Bad book blogger, right? Or maybe bad book? I really dislike writing negative reviews, but sometimes it just has to be done. It makes me feel mean and that sucks. I am not trying to be mean, just honest. So, here I go...

Storm really let me down. Let me just say that Swipe was the best of the three in the Swipe series. Sneak was adequate enough. I didn't agree with it much, but it was still an ok book and had me interested in finishing the series. But, if I had not already received a copy of Storm through Netgalley, I don't think I would have gone out of my way to continue the series. Anyways, about halfway through Storm I was so pissed at the author's choices for the book I almost didn't finish it. But, I hate not finishing a book, so I trudged through.

It wasn't worth it.

The ending was too ambiguous. The characters lacked in everyway and I felt they were extremely stereotyped. It made them unbelievable and extraordinaraly annyoying. By the end, I just wanted to scream at someone about how much time I wasted reading this series. I mean, WTF! I chose to read this over Clockwork Princess and Scarlet (which I still haven't got to yet) and as all bloggers know, reading time is precious. Bad books throw me off my momentum and make me have to step away from reading until I know I have picked a book that will make up for the debacle I just finished reading before. UUURRGG.

1 star for Storm.

Think Out Loud #43: Bruno Mars

It's that time again!!
Time to post whatever you want!
It can be a recipe, a rant, a funny pic or a genius idea.
Just share!
Full information for Think Out Loud meme HERE.
So, I was sitting here wondering what I should do for tomorrows
Think Out Loud.
Then, an answer appeared in the form of
Bruno Mars.
I was sitting here bored.
Which super sucks, because today is my BIRTHDAY!
Anyways, Bruno Mars comes on my player singing
Locked Out of Heaven.
Instantly cheered me up!
If you don't know what the hell I am talking about,
here is the video!

And if you still don't recognize him, here is his latest song.
When I Was Your Man.

Or maybe an earlier hit?
Grenade

I also remembered hearing an interesting fact about Bruno,
so I looked it up in Wikipedia. Here is what it said:

He (Bruno Mars) spawned five number one singles in the US, the only male who reached five leaders more quickly than Bruno Mars was Elvis Presley. Besides this, only him and Adele where able to achieve the feat of making a song number 1 to feature piano and vocals exclusively in the chart's more than five-decade history.

Yes, that is right. Bruno Mars is second only to ELVIS?!?
That's pretty bad ass, in my opinion.

So, what is your Think Out Loud?

WWW Wednesdays #16: Between Two Thorns

Hello all!
Welcome to WWW Wednesday!
A meme hosted by

All you have to do is answer 3 questions.
1. What did you recently finish reading?
2. What are you currently reading?
3. What are you going to read next?

What did you recently finish reading?
Something is wrong in Aquae Sulis, Bath’s secret mirror city.

The new season is starting and the Master of Ceremonies is missing. Max, an Arbiter of the Split Worlds Treaty, is assigned with the task of finding him with no one to help but a dislocated soul and a mad sorcerer.

There is a witness but his memories have been bound by magical chains only the enemy can break. A rebellious woman trying to escape her family may prove to be the ally Max needs.

But can she be trusted? And why does she want to give up eternal youth and the life of privilege she’s been born into?

What are you currently reading?
When out-of-shape IT technician Roen woke up and started hearing voices in his head, he naturally assumed he was losing it.

He wasn’t.

He now has a passenger in his brain – an ancient alien life-form called Tao, whose race crash-landed on Earth before the first fish crawled out of the oceans. Now split into two opposing factions – the peace-loving, but under-represented Prophus, and the savage, powerful Genjix – the aliens have been in a state of civil war for centuries. Both sides are searching for a way off-planet, and the Genjix will sacrifice the entire human race, if that’s what it takes.

Meanwhile, Roen is having to train to be the ultimate secret agent. Like that’s going to end up well…

What are you going to read next?
I haven't thought that far ahead! LoL.
I am so far behind on my reading!
And even further behind in writing reviews. UURGGG!
But, I have been trying to plow through my Netgalley books.
So, the next book I read will probably be....

Black Feathers is a modern fantasy set in two epochs: the Black Dawn, a time of environmental apocalypse, and generations into the future in its aftermath, the Bright Day.

In each era, a child undertakes a perilous journey to find a dark messiah known as The Crowman. In their hands lies the fate of the planet as they attempt to discover whether The Crowman is our saviour… or the final incarnation of evil.

So, what are you reading?
Comment and let me know!!

Think Out Loud #42: Computers...

Welcome to Think Out Loud!
Full Information HERE
This meme encourages random thoughts and posts.
I would love it if you would participate.
It's super easy...
Do whatever you want!

So, I finally got my new bad ass desktop computer
with my new 23" monitor!!!!
It is so awesome.
It is everything I wanted it to be an more!

On the other hand, Toshiba are dumb asses and
sent my repaired laptop to my PO Box instead
of my physical address. FedEx won't
deliver to PO Boxes.

So, you know what I got to do today?
I got to drive an hour an a half one way just to pick up
my laptop at the nearest authorized FedEx.
\It has been pouring rain all day and is like 40degrees.
WTF Oklahoma!!!

Anyways, I get home with my boxed up laptop after
my hour and a half drive home.
I sent it in because it was overheating.
The first time they replaced the fan and sent it
back and the back cover of the laptop
wasn't even screwed together properly.

I got it back after the first time and it was still overheating.
I sent it back in for this repair and you want to know what happened?
They replaced the freaking hard drive!
All my data is gone.
I had it backed up, so it is just the issue of reloading
everything that is a bitch.

This is my question though...
What does a hard drive have to do with the computer overheating???

I don't know much about computers so really confused.

Ok, I am done ranting. LOL
I should be able to start blogging regularly again now.
YAY!

What is your Think Out Loud?
