Review: "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline

“Ready Player One” was a magnificent thrill ride for the imagination! This is the story of Wade Owen Watts, better known as Parzival or Z. Parzival is the name of Wade’s avatar in the OASIS. The OASIS is a Massive Multiplayer Online game that was created by the infamous James Halliday. Before Halliday died he planted the ultimate “Easter Egg” in the OASIS game. An “Easter Egg” is any sort of hidden programming in a game. Anyways, any person that finds this “Easter Egg” will gain the wealth of Halliday, over 240 billion, plus control over the company that runs OASIS. Quite a big prize. A prize that some people would kill for even...

I really enjoyed all of the characters brought to life by Ernest Cline. I could see how it could be difficult to capture the character when they are speaking through a game the majority of the time, however, Cline does with great delicacy. And the messages lying beneath all the fun were all positive as well as the writing superb. Plus, the author really knows his stuff. This book is full of 80’s and video games references. I always felt like I was in on the joke when I recognized some obscure film/song/tv reference.

I picked this up at the library because I had heard it was good. I am so glad that I did! This book was so innovative. I absolutely thought it was awesome.

5 stars for a Perfect Score!
